The new IG2Pieces system technology automatically separates end-of-life or defective insulated glass. Once the insulated glass unit has been separated into its undamaged components, the possibilities are numerous. Be it type-specific recycling, reuse or repair, it benefits the environment while providing financial added value. The reuse of high-quality panes is ideal for repairs or new uses. Damaged insulated glass units can be efficiently separated and repaired. Glass recycling separated by type saves resources and reduces CO₂ emissions.
Threefold benefits of insulated glass units for more sustainability
Recycling: Single-type disposal of the separated, low-residue panes represents a financial advantage over mixed containers of unseparated insulating glass.
Repair: Freshly produced IGUs can be cut open to replace a defective pane: an attractive option for ordered-in panes with long delivery times, expensive glass or rare coatings.
Reuse: The reuse of panes from end-of-life units is attractive for large formats, special colours or rare glass structures.
Features
- Automated separation of insulated glass (end-of-life or newly manufactured) into undamaged components
- Balanced automation for high cycle times and cost-effectiveness of the overall process
- Automatic measurement of the glass format, determination of the structure and coating
- Software-supported recording and storage of glass data and provision for subsequent processes
- Patent-pending separating process for separation with minimal material residue
- Financial added value through type-specific recycling options
- Environmentally certifiable, e.g. for public calls to tender
Functional description
The IG2Pieces system automatically separates insulated glass units (IGUs) without damaging the materials. The insulated glass can be supplied to the system by a vacuum lifter, for example. A sensor-supported recognition system analyses the insulated glass and identifies relevant separation points. Next, the IGU is automatically separated precisely between the glass and the spacer. All components are separated from each other without being damaged. The intact removal of the individual components enables both the reuse of high-quality panes, as well as type-specific recycling.
IG2Pieces is designed to ensure a cost-effective process. Automated handling eliminates the need for manual separation and creates a standardised workflow with maximum process reliability. The resulting material purity provides increased recycling value, reduces CO₂ emissions and actively supports the goals of the circular economy.
